FFC was founded on the belief of many dedicated and passionate people that there was very little funding and airtime being made available for films that dealt with conservation and the environment. As well as trying to encourage the industry to become more green, members also looked at how they, themselves, should be working and developed the FFC Code of Ethics. In joining FFC members agree to support the mission and goals of the organisation and abide by the Code of Ethics. Whilst this Code of Ethics remains the benchmark in the treatment of landscapes, people and species that feature in documentary work, environmental issues have moved a long way in ten years. The climate crisis we currently face and the need to aim towards the sustainable use of all resources has prompted FFC to go back to the drawing board to write a sustainability addition to its current Code of Ethics. We are working with conservation organisations, universities and scientists. The guidelines will be ready to launch in late 2008. If you have ideas that you think could contribute to our guidelines please let us know.
